The Exceptional Family Member Program is with you from initial identification and throughout the sponsor’s military career to help identify and coordinate services for you or your family member’s special medical or educational needs. 

EFMP has three components:

1. Identification and enrollment:  When a family member is identified with special medical or educational needs, those needs are documented through enrollment in the EFMP. Enrollment in the EFMP is mandatory for active-duty families who have a member with special needs. Members of the National Guard or reserves may enroll according to service-specific guidance.
    
2. Assignment coordination: Enrollment ensures that a family member’s special needs are considered in the assignment process.
    
3. Family support: EFMP Family Support assists families with special needs by helping them identify and access programs and services.

EFMP & Me is an online tool provided by the Department of Defense’s Office of Special Needs and Military OneSource for military families who have family members with special needs. With EFMP & Me, you get personalized access to resources and information about support services specific to your current need.
